“BLEUS MÉDITERRANÉE”

Musée d’art of Toulon, 113 Boulevard général Leclerc

India Mahdavi commission and display an exhibition at the Toulon Musée d’Art, where she will highlight the magnificent collection of contemporary art.

If I chose blue, or rather shades of blue, it is to celebrate the Mediterranean through a choice of works from the Toulon art museum collection. Included are sculptures, paintings, drawings and photographs. Thus César’s Sein (1967) and Lucio Fontana’s Teatrino concetto spaziale (1964) mingle with l’Île Maïre II by Vincent Bioulès (1994). In this exhibition an Incomplete Open Cube by Sol LeWitt (1973) adjoins Assemblage de paquets de Gauloises bleues by Pierre Buraglio (1978). However, it is not for that matter a monochromatic standardisation.

Because, in my eyes, blue is much more than a colour. It is a universe which evokes the South, every south, it has a particular effect on me because it expresses infinity, dreams, softness.
I have undertaken numerous projects on the shores of the Mediterranean, from Monaco to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Blue, is a cupola sky, all round. I am Oriental but raised in the Occident, an uprooted multicultural person for whom blue is a common theme: that which binds the sea to the sky, an infinitely possible blue, reflected in l’Ensemble Dune by Pierre Paulin, on special loan by Benjamin Paulin.” India Mahdavi
